I Would Have Loved You Sooner

I ranted and raved

and wailed at the intro to Wheel of Fortune

because that was our show.

It was 15 years

running from shadows,

trying frantically to escape the hurt

that merciless death left behind.

I face it now -

the piercing cut of sorrow,

trickling bitterness down cheeks

tense with pressures of life.

No longer that girl,

but had I known

our story’s woeful, bitter end,

I would’ve loved you sooner.
